Aquamarine
Aquamarines are loved by many for their beautiful brilliant clear blue colour. They are a sea blue variety of the mineral Beryl. The colour of these stones is frequently improved by heat-treatment.
While the price and quality of Aquamarines can vary from as little as $1 per carat, the price and quality can vary immensely.
Part of the value of Aquamarines is decided not only by brilliance and clarity but also on colour. While many may think dark or light Aquamarine are worth more it is in fact the brightest blues that are valued most.
Aquamarine is regarded as the traditional birthstone for March and in some cultures the 19th anniversary stone.
The smithsonian museum houses an uncut aquamarine at over 15,000 carats and cut gems to around 1000 carats.
Early sailors wore aquamarine and it is often though of as a symobol of safety and security. For more information click here
