Topaz comes in many colours including yellow, green, blue, brown, red and pink, though yellow is most common.
Yellow topaz is the birthstone for the month of November while Blue topaz is an alternative birthstone to turquoise for the month of december.
Topaz can be relatively inexpensive to buy as there are many synthetic stones on the market. Though blue topaz does occur naturally, most stone you will see in jewellery store were originally different shades which have been treated with heat or other methods to turn them blue.
The largest topaz crystal ever found was 6.2kg and has been named "El Dorado".
