Tsavorite Garnet
This is a green variety of the garnet family. It can be considered a relatively new gemstone as it was only discovered in the 1960’s. so far the only known occurances of this gem are in Kenya (Tsavo area where it takes its name from), neighbouring tanzania and Madagascar.
The pricing of this gem will equal that of any good sapphire, whilst the best gems can rival emeralds in colour and brilliance. However most finds are quite small, cut gems of upward of two carats are considered rare and precious, so any cut stone over 5 carats could be considered a collectors item.
For information on other stones in the garnet family see garnet, mandarin garnet, demantoid garnet, Tsavorite Garnet on our gemstone information pages for further details.
